Investment Analyst (Healthcare) – Melbourne – Long Short

Summary
The Investment Analyst will be responsible for finding new investments and monitoring existing portfolio positions, focusing on global healthcare (including biotech, medical devices, life science tools, providers, payors and biopharma). There will also be opportunities to expand coverage into other sectors.
Previous healthcare investing (sell or buyside) experience required. The role is based in Melbourne, Australia and we do expect international/interstate applicants to move to Melbourne.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an analyst who is passionate about equity markets, loves to be challenged and is constantly seeking new knowledge and point of views. The ideal candidate would be an independent thinker, hard working with a passion for research and analysis. Our firm operates as a meritocracy, where compensation and career progression are determined by performance.
We are looking for candidates with previous healthcare investing experience and at least 5 years of professional work history at top tier institutions, but we are also open to industry hires, such as candidates with a strong corporate development background.
The role
The Analyst’s key function is to develop genuine subject matter expertise on a particular company, industry or field of interest. This pursuit will be unconstrained by resource limitations on research. The Analyst will be responsible for both finding new investment ideas and researching existing portfolio positions. As part of this, the Analyst will be expected to:
1. Regularly meet with senior executives and relevant industry, academic or clinical experts.
2. Travel overseas to perform onsite diligence and attend industry/investment conferences.
3. Analyse and synthesise findings for the rest of the investment team.
4. Build and maintain valuation models.
The Analyst will be expected to initially have a narrow sector focus and develop world class subject matter expertise. The Analyst will work directly with Dr Andrew Lin.
Skills/Qualifications
Some skills/experience that would be viewed favourably, include:
1. Investment experience in healthcare (sell or buyside)
2. Corporate development / M&A experience at global healthcare firms
3. Advanced academic qualifications (e.g. MD, PhD)
4. Experience at a top tier investment bank or private equity firm
Remuneration
Compensation will be competitive with the market in a base + bonus structure. Bonus is discretionary and uncapped.
